Year 1

Welcome to Year 1's Web Page

Welcome to Year 1’s section of the website. Year 1 is a happy, friendly environment for the children to learn in as they make their transition into Key Stage One.

The team work hard to create an enriching and secure learning environment for all children; ensuring that their transition to Key Stage One is as smooth as possible.

An effective parent school partnership is key to the children’s success. We ask that you support your child each night by reading with them and completing weekly home learning set by the teacher. Communication is crucial so we are always available to address any concerns or queries that you may have during your child’s time with us. We have Home/School Communication books which the parents and teachers write in when necessary. If you wish to feedback anything or simply pass on a message it would be welcomed!

In addition your contribution and support is invaluable to us and if you feel you are able to contribute some of your time to support the children’s learning, specifically reading, we would be most grateful.

If you would like to find out more about our team and children please visit our individual class homepage. To do this you will need your personal username and password and use the login link on the homepage of our website. Please remember that only Year 1 parents and children have access to this section so keep your details safe.

Music: Pitch and rhythm

PE / Games: Gymnastics and Games

PSHCE: New beginnings

The school promotes healthy living and suggests that children drink water regularly. Please send your child into school with a labelled bottle of water (separate from their lunch box drink) so that they can drink during class time and we will refill these when necessary throughout the day.

Please could you also ensure that your child’s clothes are clearly named. School P.E. kits must be brought into school at the beginning of every half term and we will send them home to be washed every holiday. Children need a pair of trainers as part of their P.E. kit for outdoor games. A pair of dark coloured tracksuit bottoms will also be needed just in case it’s chilly. Year 1 will be doing PE on Monday and Thursday mornings.

For your reference, below is a list of the homework the children will be required to complete on a regular basis.

English and Maths: One piece of home learning for each subject will be given out every Thursday. Please can you ensure that both English and Maths homework is completed and returned by the following Tuesday. If it is not completed and returned by this time, your child will attend home learning club on Wednesday during lunch time, to complete their work.

Reading: Please read with your child at home every day. Please help to develop your child’s understanding of what they are reading by asking them questions about the text.
Spellings: These are given out every Monday by your child's Phonics teacher and they are tested that Friday. The words given are based on their Phonics phase, which the children will be studying throughout the week.

We hope that the children enjoy the term ahead but should you have any queries, please do not hesitate to make an appointment to see us before or after school.
