Every Monday the Year 3 teachers will upload a short video message just to touch base, say hello and give a short summary of the upcoming activities!

We are so proud of you and how quickly you have adapted.  We hope you didn't find any of the tasks too tricky, but remember, we are here for you if you are struggling, whether it be with the content or just finding it hard to adapt to this way of learning.

Don't forget to please send us any of your work that you complete to our email addresses, and please make sure you are logging onto Reading Eggs and Times Table Rockstars and completing the activities!

If you have any questions or queries, please do email us as we will be able to respond and provide assistance for the activities we have set!

We are continuing with our topic of 'Place Value' this week. For each day you will find a Varied Fluency sheet and a problem solving and reasoning sheet. These sheets are differentiated so you do not need to complete all of them. Just select one Varied fluency and one problem solving and reasoning for each day.

To help you choose what sheet your child needs here is a guide to what each level means:

A red star sheet= developing (challenge level is easier)

A blue star sheet= expected (this is the level we are expecting in Year 3)

A gold star sheet= greater depth (mastery level and this is challenging)

Each day you can use the White Rose Maths link to find the corresponding video. This gives you examples of the questions and helps to explain what you need to do. To find the video, follow the link provided and then look for the video which has the same title as your worksheet.

There are also Oak Academy videos to watch which is also to help support your child. Example questions have also been put together on a weekly copy of the PowerPoint slides to practice before completing the 2 sheets for each day.

English and SPaG:

For this week we are continuing with our book for this half term 'Gangsta Granny' by David Walliams and we are looking at Newspaper reports! This week you will learn all about Newspaper reports including the features and practice applying these skills before writing your very own newspaper report next week!

A description of each task and the resources are available below including the next 2 chapters of Gangsta Granny and Oak Academy videos to help support learning.

You will also find a SPag activity and relevant PowerPoint Slides. These sheets are similar to Maths where you have a varied fluency and problem solving and reasoning. These are differentiated so you need to select which level you want to try for varied fluency and problem solving and reasoning!

Reading Comprehension:

Each week we will set 2 different reading comprehension challenges for you to complete at home. Spend 10-15 minutes reading the text and then answer the questions. Read what the question is asking you are try your very best!

These are differentiated as like all resources so choose the challenge level you want to complete!

We have also included a new series where famous celebrities read an extract from their favourite children's book! We will include a new episode each week to listen to!

We are continuing with our topic 'Animals including humans' this week with a fantastic new task! This week we are going to be looking at the functions of the skeleton. You will learn about the three main functions of a skeleton and also information about the joints! There are two parts to the activity this week. The first following the instruction of the sheet you need to identify what bones relate to which function. (e.g. the skull =protection) The next activity is to fill out a table about the 3 types of joints. All the information you need to fill out this activity is on a lovely PowerPoint which is on a pdf version!

We hope you enjoy these tasks and the moving skeleton activity will also be available if you didn't get a chance last week!

For this week's task we want you to look closely at your local area! At some point in the week go for a walk with your family looking at all the features of your local area. Once you have been on a walk, you can then fill out the table looking at specific features including; transport, nature, buildings and types of houses!

You need to write some notes about what you saw and then draw a picture. For example, on your walk you might have seen a block of flats so in the box about types of houses I might draw a detailed picture of the flats.

There is also a local area checklist sheet to help you with what you are looking at for! Any pictures from your walk please do send to your class teacher. Get exploring!

In RE this week we are learning all about the Jewish practice of Shabbat! Shabbat is the weekly period of rest from Friday evening until Saturday night. In your task this week there are 3 different activities for you to complete. There is a PowerPoint guide to help you learn more about Shabbat and a selection of video clips to watch to help.

Task 1: Using a selection of pictures representing different parts of Shabbat, can you put them in the correct chronological order?

Task 2: A storyboard has been created to represent the different stages of Shabbat. Some pictures have been included and sentences but can you complete the rest using your knowledge of Shabbat?

Task 3: Can you write a summary in full sentences answering the big questions for this week?

At SMFR for PSHE we use the SCARF programme. To incorporate PSHE within your remote learning, the SCARF programme have created units that  cover key concepts and outcomes within SCARF’s half-termly units and these activities are  to encourage children to think and reflect. These focus on positive themes and developed specifically to help build positive relationships in the home. These activities do not necessarily require lots of resources and their purpose are to promote discussion and provide safe PSHE activities to all children.

This week we are looking at the world around us! Your task is to:

Design a poster to promote a ‘litter tidy up’ event in your local area. Explain on your poster why it’s important to clear up your litter and the negative impact litter has on the local area.

French and Music:

Music: We will be learning the song 3 Little Birds by Bob Marley and the Wailers. Listen to this and see if you can sing along. Clap in time to the beat. How many beats are in each regular section of words. What do you think the meaning of the song is?
