Work For At Home Week Beginning 8th February

Hello from Mrs Birch

We are continuing to write non-fiction (information texts) this week.

This week, we are going to continue learning a bit more about Addition and Subtraction.  For each day there is a worksheet which has 3 different levels - Easy (Page 2), Medium (Page 3) and Hard (Page 4).  Please use the sheet which you feel best suits your child. In the Challenge box, there is an additional sheet for each day which is more about problems solving and explaining your thinking.  Feel free to use this if and when you like!

This week we are starting something new. We are going to be looking at exclamation marks and what an exclamation is. Today we are focussing on one-word exclamations. There is a PowerPoint below which has some questions and answers. You can use this to get familiar with what a one-word exclamation is. There is also a question sheet for you to complete. Let us know if you get stuck or if you have any questions.

Last week in Topic we started to look at Victorian toys and what children played with in The Victorian Era. This week we are going to continue looking at Victorian toys, but this time you are going to make your own toy! Go through the PowerPoint, and then open the instructions which tell you what materials you need, and how to make a cup and ball toy. We would love to see photographs of your creations! Can you get the ball into the cup?

This week, it's our last week looking at materials.  This week we are going to sort different materials according to their properties.  For example, if they are hard or soft.

Use the cards to help you or, if you don't have a printer, write the words on pieces of paper.

Materials And Their Properties

This is the final lesson of this half term's RE topic. We have been learning about the Christian Creation Story and how God created the world in 7 days. Last week we looked at how our world is being polluted and spoilt. Today we want you to create a poster to show ways in which we can look after our planet.

You can be as creative as you like. I have included a template below which you may like to use but here are some other ideas about how you could present your work:

- use a computer/ electronic device

- create a collage

- use paint on your poster

There is a PowerPoint below and a video to watch. I really look forward to seeing your posters. I hope you enjoy this activity.

Extra bonus points to anyone that can link their poster to the creation story or mention it in some way!

7 Natural Wonders Of The World

This is our last week looking at the work of L.S. Lowry.

This week, we are going to create  our collage in the style of Lowry, using all the parts you have created over the last three weeks.  If you have lost a part, don't worry as the sheets from previous weeks are below.

L.S Lowry - A Work Of Art

A compilation of pictures by L.S Lowry set to a song about his life and work by Brian and Michael - Matchstalk Men And Matchstalk Cats And Dogs

Mrs Gordon thought it would be lovely if you could practise a song while you were at home with your family. You could even teach it to the rest of them - some of you are amazing at dancing too and you could make up a routine to go with it.  Our song is in the link below.

I know how much some of you like singing and dancing so you could always record yourself singing and dancing to your favourite song and send it to us - we'd really like to see them!

In this lesson you are going to learn about how important it is to wash your hands. Watch this video all about the importance of maintaining personal hygiene. There is also an experiment for you to take part in. If you would like to do this, you will need: a large bowl with water in, pepper/spice, handwash and a towel to dry your hands. The video will explain how to do the experiment.

We would love to see photos of you taking part in the experiment!

We would like you to start the first coding unit at home. It is lots of fun and you can get more and more creative as you work your way through the lessons at home. Don't worry though it starts off very simple!

We are starting with Level 1- On the Move

Below is a help guide.

The 'On the Move' unit helps you to learn that programs execute by following clear instructions and it helps you to understand that programs respond to inputs to do different things.

The link above will take you to the Discovery Education Webpage and you will need to login:
