Year 5 Attenborough & Hawking Classes

Welcome to Year 5!

Hello all and welcome to Year 5. We hope you had an amazing summer break and are looking forward to a great first term in Year 5. We have many incredible things to look forward to in this term. Remember, learning is cyclical and needs to be continued at home. We need your support, especially with homework, reading, spelling and multiplication tables and ensuring your children are present as much as possible.

Year 5 this year consists of:

5FC (Attenborough Class) : Miss Clayton, Mr Farmer and Mrs Hay

5C (Hawking Class) : Mr Copete and Mrs Hay.

PE days:

Our PE days this year are on a Monday ( Attenboruough )/ Tuesday ( Hawking ) and Wednesday (both)

Year 5 Learning Overviews - Spring 2026

Our 3 week Learning Overview will tell you all about the learning we are going to be completing in the coming weeks.

We encourage you all to engage as much as possible with the learning of the children but inparticular it is Reading with your children that is vital!  It will help them in all areas of the curriculum.  Not just hearing that they can read texts, but it is discussing the texts with the children that they need at this age - sharing questions about what they have read, about characters and story plots, new vocabulary and actions that characters have taken or techniques that authors have used - these skills are what older KS2 children need to be able to do.

Please contact us if there are any queries either through the office or feel free to try and catch us at the end of the day on the gate.

Art - Sketching and Drawing

We have been learning to add texture and tone to our sketching to help make things look realistic and 'pop' off of the page.  Here are some links to useful tutorials we have looked at – I know you are keen to keep practising at home.
