Squash Taster Day - Year 5

On Wednesday 21st February 2024, Year 5 were given the opportunity to take part in a Squash taster session run by Buckinghamshire Squash Development Centre. This was held in the school hall and for many of the children it was the first time they had held a squash racquet. They took part in a range of different activities and games using the skills needed to play a game of squash. You can see how much fun they had from the photos below.

RNLI

On Wednesday 7th February we welcomed Mary Oswald into school. Mary is a volunteer for the RNLI (Royal National Lifeboat Institution). Mary delivered class and year group sessions throughout the day on water safety and how to have fun whilst staying safe in the water. The children were able to dress up as lifeguards and Rescue Crew and act out scenarios relating to water hazards as well as group activities identifying hazards in rivers, at the beach and at harbours. The day culminated in a very informative Assembly for the whole school  on the important role of the RNLI.

The RNLI is a Charity that saves lives at sea, and you can boost your knowledge even further by visiting RNLI.org/safety. You can even sharpen your skills with a free outdoor swim lesson if you visit SwimSafe.org.uk.

Remember

1. Stop and think When you're by the water ask yourself: Is it a safe place to swim and is there a lifeguard? How deep is the water? What dangers could be under the surface?

2. Stay Together - Family and friends can help in an emergency. Always go with someone else. Tell someone where you are going and when you'll be back. Carry a phone if you can to call for help.

 3. If you get into trouble in the water, FLOAT. Practice floating next time you are at the swimming pool.

 4. If you can help someone else who is in trouble call 999 or 112. Once you've called for help stay back from the edge and don't go in the water.
